Our Story

El Alteño Mexican Food started the way a lot of the best neighborhood kitchens do — as a family table that decided to open its doors to the rest of Somerset Road. From the moment you walk in past the hand-painted leather chairs stamped with our name, it’s clear this is a place built by hands that care about the details, right down to the chips and salsa that hit your table hot enough to steam.

One regular said it best after being pointed our way by a stranger at a local lumberyard: the fideo loco with picadillo arrived “steaming hot and delicious,” and the staff was “super polite to everyone and as helpful as they could be.” Another guest, a self-described “chilaquiles girl” who has sampled plenty around town, told us ours are hands-down her favorite — and that the servers make a point of circling back with coffee to ask how everything tastes.

We open early for breakfast and stay open through dinner, seven days a week, with a drive-thru for the mornings when you need Mexican comfort food on the way out the door. Whether you’re here for a quick plate of tacos or settling in for a full family meal, we cook every order like we’re feeding our own.

What Guests Are Saying

“I was referred to this family restaurant by a local guy at a lumberyard. It did not disappoint. The chips arrived with some steaming salsa… literally, it is served hot and mildly spicy. I ordered the Fideo loco with Picadillo. It was also steaming hot and delicious. The wait staff was super polite to everyone and as helpful as they could be.”

“Very small place but omg… very delicious. I am a chilaquiles girl and have gone many places to taste them and hands down I have a place that is amazing from many that I have tried. The service was awesome as they came around with coffee and asked how everything was. Recommend and will definitely be coming again soon.”
